We have a herd of deer in our neighborhood which, during the drought earlier this year, were looking gaunt and hungry. We started feeding them handfuls of corn and keeping a tub filled with water. My husband, Wayne, soon picked out a favorite–the one who ran towards him when he shook the feed cup and would come closest to him for food.
He named her Audrey.
Yesterday, we were watched Audrey coming up on the sidewalk to the steps of the porch, less than two feet away from Wayne. That’s when I noticed the two knobs forming on Audrey’s head. Apparently, Wayne’s favorite doe was actually a young buck.
Oops!
We now call him Andrew.
